The Railway Crossing in the Middle of The Sea

It feels like a imagination, visible from a distance of a train passing in the middle of the sea. How can a train running in the waters? This is called a causeway, the causeway in great waters.

Why are not called to the bridge? The difference is quite simple, when the bridge is using the pillars, but not so for the causeway. Directly causeway from the mainland in the waters which are usually made from a land fill or rock.

One example is the Hindenburg Dam, a causeway in Germany are used for railway connecting the North Frisian Island, Sylt to mainland Schleswig-Holstein.

Causeway which opened on June 1, 1927, measuring over 11 kilometers, where to travel in the train pass takes 10 minutes.

Because there is no other way than the causeway towards Sylt. Therefore, to transport large items simply use the train. Everyday, more than 100 trains pass through this causeway, 50 of them transporting cars.

Furthermore, the Causeway is in Zone 1 specifically protected in Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer National Park.
