The Long Ancient Wall Stretching Along The Beach

Imagine for a moment if you are in place as shown in the photo below. Standing a long stretching wall as if covering all your view. You will be surprised if behind the wall is the ocean.

Located in ​​Batroun, a city in northern Lebanon within approximately 50 km north of Beirut and 30 km south of Tripoli. One of the oldest cities in the world, has ancient buildings full of historical value, namely a ancient protective wall.

Historically, Batroun was already occupied by humans at least begins 5,000 years ago. In the past, Batroun is one of the most important cities of Phoenicians. Batroun name comes from the Greek, Botrys, then turned into Latin, Botrus.Historians believe that the name comes of the Phoenician word "Bater", means "cut". It refers to the wall built by the Phoenicians at sea to protect them from the tide.

The wall was originally a natural structure consisting of petrified sand dunes. Then strengthened by the Phoenicians with sand rocks. The measuring approximately 225 meters in length and 1 to 1.5 meters in thickness. Some parts have been destroyed and the rest are still standing strong in Batroun bay, and became one of the relics of the ancient history of Lebanon.
